Make one quick call or email to your NYC Council Member and politely ask them to “Please sign on as a co-sponsor and vote YES on Romanch’s Law (Intro 943) to shut down deadly horse-drawn carriages. A teenager was killed on June 17th after a carriage horse spooked and ran wild, a week before that, another carriage horse died on the street. Horses are unpredictable prey animals that will keep running wildly and crashing, putting everyone at risk. I urge you to cosponsor and vote YES for Romanch’s Law (Intro 943) to prevent further tragedies.” Make sure you tell them that you live in their district!

When horses are forced to pull carriages on the busy streets of Manhattan, violent crashes, horse deaths and human injuries or deaths are inevitable. Horses are prey animals who run out of control when frightened or spooked. This is a recipe for disaster in traffic-congested New York City. This is why many large cities around the world have already banned horse-drawn carriages.
Romanch’s Law is the answer.
Romanch’s Law is a NYC Council bill which will shut down cruel and unsafe horse-drawn carriages and make Manhattan streets safer for all.
Ryder’s Story
A sick, malnourished carriage horse named Ryder collapsed in Midtown August 10, and and suffered on the hot asphalt for over an hour with no veterinary care, as NYPD officers desperately hosed him off and covered him in ice until he was able to stand up. The horse’s driver and owner, Ian Mckeever forced Ryder to pull a carriage while clearly sick and suffering, and was filmed cruelly whipping and hitting
Ryder while he was down, to the outrage of onlookers.
